Growing up she experienced Peruvian landscapes urban and rural, set against and defined by the presence of pre-Columbian and colonial aesthetics. In this artist’s talk, Velarde will discuss her artistic practice, which she describes as a personal primordial task to understand her cultural patrimony as a multi-racial and historical hybrid, asking “In whose hands is placed the possibility of continuity?” This talk is taking place within the frame of the Exhibition: Picture Worlds Greek, Maya, and Moche Pottery September 14 – December 15, 2024 This program is free and open to the public, and registration is required.
